A major theme in my artwork is the portrayal of a connection between all things, both living and inanimate. Whether through shape or shared line, I seek to link organic objects with geometric ones, or common images with the abstract. The fusion of these images often appear to be suspended in space or as solid matter moving through ethereal matter on a given plane.

Certain pieces contain a high density of objects and design pattern, which may form a recognizable image as a whole or appear as a stream of abstract expression. Many who view these works choose to take in the product of imagery as a whole, while others dissect the work further to find what -- and how many -- objects have melded together to form the overall mass.

Several artists have inspired me in my creation of a unique style of blended imagery and the underlying thematic elements. Among the most popular would be M.C. Escher, his symmetry and complexity of design as well as the use of shared contour lines in image depiction being a constant fascination. The use of bold, flowing lines and shape by many Native American artists of the Northwest such as Isaac Bignell to portray wildlife and our connection to nature, have influenced my stylized representation of organic forms.

I have found that mixed medias including ink, graphite and water colour, best serve to heighten the contrast between the vast array of images present in my work, the positive space and the negative. My desire to effectively portray our world as the often confusing jumbled mass of nature and industry that it is, depends on drawing such contrasts as well as any semblance of unity.
